Outcome of emergency joint union meeting

The emergency joint union meeting over the threatened redundancies in ACE was a well-attended meeting with approximately 100-120 people attending. The meeting passed the resolution below and began a petition to protest against the redundancies. Please sign the petition if you have not already done so. The resolution will be sent to the Regional Union Officials to show the strength of feeling at UEL and will be used as a major part of the forthcoming negotiations with management and the three trade unions Unite, Unison and UCU regarding the state of industrial relations here at UEL. The resolution reads:

We deplore the recently announced redundancies in ACE and the absence of consultation over the reviews and restructuring taking place across the institution.

We deplore the poor handling of these matters by senior managers in this school and the complete lack of consultation with our recognised trade unions or the following of UEL’s Managing Organisational Change Policy.

We ask Trade Union Officers to discuss with senior management an immediate halt to any process pending proper and full consultations with UCU, UNISON and UNITE.

We ask the joint unions to ask for a commitment from management at JSCNC that there will be no compulsory redundancies, which will cause further reputational damage to the University and damage student experience.

If management refuse to withdraw the threat of compulsory redundancies and fail to consult in a proper manner, campus unions will have no alternative but to consult members with a view to balloting for industrial action.
